Description: In 1903, a tiny Iowa town of 400 people was terrorized by a winged beast for five nights. It had leathery bat-like wings, a horn on its head that emitted a beam of light, and made a sound that was described “as though Satan and a regiment of imps were coming forth for battle.” Eventually, an old-fashioned mob was formed to drive the beast out for good. But, was it all real? Or, was it an elaborate hoax created by some of the town’s most prominent residents?
